Balearic
Slower, stranger, and not really a genre at all.
Balearic was never a sound so much as a way of selecting — the Ibiza habit of playing whatever worked at sunrise regardless of where it came from. A dub record, an Italian soundtrack and a pop single could sit in the same hour.
What filters into deep house under the tag is the slower, warmer, looser end: tempos in the low hundreds, instruments that sound played, and an unembarrassed streak of melody.
