Dub Techno
Chord stabs, tape echo, and a lot of space.
Dub techno is what happened when Berlin applied Jamaican mixing-desk technique to a house record: a chord sent through delay until the echo becomes the arrangement. Basic Channel and the Main Street and Chain Reaction labels set the template in the early nineties and nobody has really improved on it.
It sits inside deep house rather than beside it because the pulse is the same — the difference is how much has been taken away. Round Two's New Day is a soul record played through that filter, and is still among the most wanted records in the whole catalogue.
